Reporting Saves Lives

It takes collective effort to create a safe and healthy working environment. By speaking up on unsafe situations, you could prevent an injury to yourself, a co-worker, or even save a life. Your involvement can also impact the lives of their loved ones. You can play your part with these actionable steps:

Supervisors

AWARE

Conduct training to educate your workers on potential hazards, enabling them to spot and report.

ASSESS

Dedicate regular time with your workers to review work processes and safety procedures.

ACT

Communicate regularly with your workers on the channels of reporting unsafe situations.
Guide your workers on how to pause work safely to address unsafe situations.
Ensure safety lapses are eliminated, and workers adhere to safe work procedures.

WAYS TO REPORT UNSAFE practices

TO YOUR BOSS

Your supervisors are responsible for ensuring your safety. Tell them if you have any concerns with safety and health, or if you spot any unsafe acts at your workplace. It will help their business run smoothly, and prevent injuries to you or your colleagues.

TO YOUR UNION LEADER

You may also choose to raise your safety and health concerns with your company’s Union leaders, who will work together with your company to resolve the issue.

to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) or the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC)

If need be, you may report unsafe work practices to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) or to the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC).
The MOM takes workplace safety and health very seriously, and your feedback is valuable. Reporting any unsafe act will not only protect you, but also your co-workers. Your timely action can make a significant difference in preventing injuries. Reporting can keep the workplace safer for everyone and more importantly, it can save lives.
We will not disclose your identity to your employer or the company. It will be kept confidential and only key information regarding the incident will be shared with the company for investigation.

The MWC is a non-government organisation (NGO) that champions fair employment practices and the well-being of migrant workers in Singapore.

What to do if you are threatened or
sacked after submitting a valid safety report?

Your employer should not threaten you or end your employment because you made a valid safety report. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will take action against such employers if they do so.
Migrant workers who are threatened or sacked after submitting a valid safety report can approach MOM for help to investigate their employer, and to change employer to continue working in Singapore, if necessary.
